Scorched Bloom

Poppies over broken skin

This ethereal gown is the second piece in a conceptual duo exploring the lasting impact of war on the human body and mind. Built on a sheer, nude-toned mesh with an internal corset and back lacing, the dress sculpts and supports the figure while maintaining an illusion of fragility and exposure, echoing the vulnerability of the human form in times of conflict.

Hand-sewn red muscle-like appliqués trace the torso, evoking anatomy beneath the skin, while dozens of handmade fabric poppies cascade across the gown and down the flowing skirt. As the commemorative flower of World War I soldiers, the poppies symbolize remembrance, sacrifice, and resilience — transforming the garment into a moving memorial woven into fabric.

This gown tells a story of trauma and healing, revealing how beauty and strength can emerge even after profound destruction.
